LITHOPHANES
The traditional lithophane technique used in the models SUNMOON, HOOP–LA, and DAYLIGHT was developed in the 19th century. The transmission of light through reliefs incorporated into 1-2 mm thin porcelain sheets creates images with seamless gradations of light and shadow, allowing for intricate patterns and photorealistic motifs.
The standard suspension is crafted from white-coated aluminum, with the porcelain sheet slipping into the frame from the side, subtly revealing the delicate edge of the porcelain while allowing a small strip of light to escape. The relief is evenly illuminated from behind by an LED surface.
