STUDIO

Design and Production

At the heart of our work lies the creation of fine and exquisite porcelain objects. With two decades of experience, we explore the unique qualities of porcelain to craft atmospheric and poetic pieces that engage and captivate the senses. It is the material’s remarkable translucency, the elegance of its surface, and its delicate nature, which glows in the light and defines the visual experience.

STUDIO CORDULA KAFKA is both a design hub and a manufactory, where concept and production come together seamlessly under one roof. Every piece is handcrafted in our Berlin atelier, allowing us to maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship and creativity. We are proud to be working in partnership with the renowned Royal Porcelain Manufactory KPM Berlin on some of the production processes and on technical matters.

New and bespoke designs

Our designs are based on both traditional and new, self-developed porcelain production techniques. Experimenting and playing with the material has been an integral part of the studio’s everyday life from the very beginning and a source of ideas for new designs.

We are always open to ideas and requests that our clients bring to us. You are welcome to contact us if you have an own idea or a theme-specific design for your project. We will work with you to develop a new design based on mood boards, tests and models.

The Illumination

Our high-quality standards extend not only to our porcelain objects but also to their illumination. To meet these demands, we collaborate with professional lighting specialists in Germany to develop custom luminaires and optimize the visual impact of our installations. This enables us to offer exceptional design and optimal lighting solutions for any space.

The distribution

STUDIO CORDULA KAFKA works directly with architects and interior designers. Our work is not represented in the retail trade. We work internationally. Our creations have found their place in private homes, hotels, and public spaces around the world.

Our additional service

We will collaborate with you to design the ideal installation and lighting for your project. Based on the available space and your client’s requirements, we’ll provide recommendations for size, placement, and lighting. If needed, we can visit the site to assess the space and work closely with you to finalize the design. Our team also handles the final installation, including the assembly of the porcelain components and the finishing touches, if desired.

CORDULA

From a young age, Cordula Kafka has shown a passion for craftsmanship and art. She discovered her love for drawing and painting early on and learned various handcraft techniques through self-study. After training as a theatrical sculptor, she worked as an assistant in the studio of the renowned British artist Tony Cragg, where she deepened her craftsmanship and artistic understanding and embraced the freedom of experimental work.

During her subsequent art and design studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin, the combination of porcelain and light became her central design theme and formed the basis for the founding of her studio in 2002.

Cordula designs in close dialog with the material and with her acquired knowledge of feasibility and implementation. In the end, the material determines the form.

She stages the unique radiance and ethereal beauty of illuminated porcelain in sleek, refined, and pure forms, creating minimalist bodies that highlight the material’s essence.

Her designs include expansive installations featuring familiar imagery, such as floating paper or flocks of birds, which evoke a sense of recognition and curiosity in the viewer. Additionally, there are individual light objects that stand alone as sculptural statements, each with its own unique presence.

Cordula works on the fine line between art and design. Her works are sculptural, timeless light objects that are subtle and serene, yet have a strong, transformative presence in the room.
